Ahhh Tivoli.. a quaint little town just outside of Rome that I had never been on my radar until this trip (see Rome I and Rome II). Villa d'Este is what helps puts this unique town on the tourist map. Villa d'Este was built in the 1550s for Cardinal Ippolito d'Este. The large, restored home place was beautiful but the lush and manicured grounds is what draws people from all around. The detailed gardens, elegant fountains and the stunning views were breathtaking. I loved following whatever path was before me to see where it would take me next. It was not only a scenic garden to photograph but also to sketch, to paint, and to fill a multitude of journal pages. I took such joy in watching the art students soak up the magnificent surroundings and capture so many beautiful memories with pens and brushes.
Florence is up next.
